What I treat

Different site, same problem.

Wherever it shows up, the cause is usually the same: not enough capacity for what you're asking of it.

Clearview, specifically

Hampstead Road runs from your boundary to my door.

Clearview’s eastern boundary is Hampstead Road. My front door is on Ways Road, just off it. That is the whole trip: one road, about six minutes, free parking when you arrive.

St Albans Reserve is the one worth knowing about. It has a sporting oval, tennis courts and an athletics club, which makes it the busiest bit of ground in the suburb and a reliable source of the injuries I see from here.

Athletics in particular produces a specific set: Achilles, shins, hamstrings and knees, almost all of them overload rather than trauma. The typical version is someone who has ramped volume or intensity across a season and whose tissue has not kept pace. Tendons are especially prone to this, because they adapt considerably slower than the muscle pulling on them and slower again than your enthusiasm.

That mismatch is the whole story, and it means the fix is progressive loading over months, not rest followed by a return to the same volume that caused it.

The tennis courts add the other half: shoulders and elbows. Same principle, different joint.

Clearview also has Folland Park on its western flank and Somerset Reserve to the south, so there is no shortage of places to run. There is likewise no shortage of people running further than they have built up to.

If you are in that group, the useful thing to know is that pain during loading is not automatically a sign to stop. Managed properly it is part of the process. Managed badly it becomes a year.
